LOOKING AFTER YOUR KOI
This section contains help and advice based on my experience keeping Koi for over half a century.
I started as a Saturday Boy in my local aquarium shop, progressed to Koi keeping quite soon afterwards – and became hooked. Over the years I have, not only kept Koi for my own pleasure, but have imported, retailed and bred koi professionally. Now I’m semi-retired, but I can’t seem to kick the habit!!
The most common question I get asked is “How big should my pond be?” – WRONG QUESTION – it should be “how big does my filter need to be?”
We keep water. Koi need great water 24/7, 365 days a year.
You can never over-filter a Koi Pond.
If the filter isn’t up to the job, your koi will suffer – or worse still DIE.
Big pond + inadequate filter = sick and dead Koi
Average pond + big filter = success
We will be adding more articles to this section as we go along.
